Rising damp refers to the upward movement of moisture from the ground through a building's walls, often resulting in damage to the structure, paint, plaster, and flooring. This phenomenon occurs when moisture from the ground travels up through capillary action in porous materials such as brick, stone, or concrete. Rising damp is a significant concern, particularly in older buildings or those that lack an effective damp-proof course (DPC).
